Romantasy has basically taken over my TBR this year, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. These are the four I keep coming back to or recommending when someone asks where to start. A mix of dragons, fae, letters, and vampires, so there's an entry point no matter what pulls you in.

  1. Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros, gold cover with a dragon and cloud illustration.

Dragons, a brutal war college, and a slow burn enemies-to-lovers that everyone's been talking about for a reason.

  2. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas, red cover with a yellow title and beast illustration.

The fae romantasy that started it all for a lot of readers, and the series just keeps expanding from here.

  3. Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross, black cover with gold typewriter keys and blue dried flowers.

    Divine Rivals by Rebecca Ross

A quieter kind of magic told through letters between two rival journalists, less spice and more heart if that's what you're after.

  4. The Serpent & the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent, pale cover with a green serpent, sword, and blue roses.

Vampires, a deadly tournament, and real stakes from the first chapter on.

Add any of these to your cart and thank me later. If you read one, let me know which house or wingleader or rival journalist you're rooting for.

Common questions

What is romantasy?
It's a mashup of romance and fantasy, books where the love story and the fantasy plot both carry equal weight, not just a romance with a fantasy backdrop.
Which one should I start with if I'm new to the genre?
Fourth Wing or A Court of Thorns and Roses are the easiest entry points, both are widely read and easy to find people to talk about them with.
Are these spicy?
Fourth Wing, ACOTAR, and The Serpent & the Wings of Night lean spicier. Divine Rivals is the gentlest of the four if that's not what you're looking for.
