Halloween costumes for four people and a dog sound like a whole project until you pick one shape and just repeat it. That is basically our family costume strategy every year. This time it is pumpkins, head to tail, dog included. Nobody has to sew anything, nobody has to explain what they are at the door, and the dog gets to be part of the photo instead of standing off to the side looking confused about the whole thing.

  1. Two adults wearing hooded orange jack-o-lantern pumpkin onesies with green cuffs and leaf collars.

    Pumpkin Onesie (Adults)

The whole "we did not overthink this" costume. Zip up, done, and it works for two parents who want to match without matching too hard.

  2. Toddler wearing a padded orange pumpkin costume with a green leaf collar, matching pumpkin hat, and a small pumpkin treat bucket.

    Pumpkin Costume (Toddler)

Soft, padded, and built for a toddler who is going to want to sit down in it at least four times before trick or treating even starts.

  3. Dog wearing an orange pumpkin costume with a green collar and a black jack-o-lantern face on the back.

The piece that makes the whole photo. Easy on, easy off, and worth it for the fifteen seconds it takes before he tries to shake it off.

Common questions

Is a pumpkin costume good for a first family Halloween costume?
Yes. It is one shape repeated across everyone, so there is no coordinating separate outfits or themes.
Does the toddler pumpkin costume work for trick or treating, or just photos?
It is padded but not stiff, so he can still walk, sit, and reach into a candy bowl without help.
What if my dog does not usually tolerate costumes?
The dog version is a simple pull-on style, not a full bodysuit, so it is a good one to start with if he is picky about wearing things.

Same costume, four different sizes, one very good dog picture out of it.
